Diploma Programme Curriculum

The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups.

The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay (EE).

Through the Diploma Programme (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.

Students choose courses from the following subject groups: studies in language and literature; language acquisition; individuals and societies; sciences; mathematics; and the arts.

Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies course, instead of a course in the arts.

Students will take some subjects at higher level (HL) and some at standard level (SL).  HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level.

Each student takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher level, and the remaining at standard level.

Standard level subjects take up 150 learning hours. Higher level comprises 240 learning hours.

We are proud to be an authorized school for DP International Baccalaureate World School for grades 11 to 12.

Why Choose DP?

encourages students to learn to appreciate knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and personal attributes as a connected whole.

The three core
elements are:
  • Theory of knowledge, in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.

  • The extended essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.

  • Creativity, activity, service, in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.

Starting in August 2023, we look forward to many fun and enriching opportunities for our students and community. Our school is committed to a focus on fostering a close-knit family atmosphere, supporting learners that are known and that care for others, building a strong academic program, encouraging curiosity in learning, and growing courageous socially responsible citizens.

GGAS is committed to the Diploma Programme (DP) – an internationally devised programme administered by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). The Diploma Programme offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. It is a student-centred approach to education for children aged 16 – 19 focusing on the total growth of the developing students, encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs, in addition to academic welfare.

Students in the 21st century are faced with the challenge of learning about an interconnected world where knowledge is constantly developing. The DP prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning and focuses on the development of the child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.
